Chopin dedicated this Nocturne to Countess Therese d’Apponyi who was one. of Chopin’s students and a prominent figure in parisian society. The nocturne is lyrical and elegant, characterised by its flowing melodic lines, delicate ornamentation, and expressive, dreamlike atmosphere.

Rachmaninoff – Prelude in G Minor, Op. 32 No. 5
Rachmaninoff composed this Prelude in 1901 during a period of creative renewal, premiering it in Moscow alongside his Second Piano Concerto. The piece is structured and rhythmically driven, characterised by its steady, march-like pulse and chordal accompaniment. Within this framework, the music introduces a contrasting, lyrical middle section featuring fluid, ‘singing’ melodies and a transparently layered texture, which builds to a natural climax before returning smoothly to the opening march theme.
