Mozart’s Piano Sonata in A minor, K. 310, composed in Paris in 1778, is one of his most dramatic and emotionally intense piano sonatas. A minor was an unusual key for Mozart, and the work stands apart from many of his more elegant and graceful sonatas because of its darker mood, strong contrasts, and almost orchestral sense of drama.
Chopin composed his Impromptu No. 3 in G-flat major, Op. 51 in 1842. It belongs to his mature period and is the last of the three numbered impromptus. Unlike the more immediately brilliant First Impromptu or the famous Fantaisie-Impromptu, Op. 51 has a more refined, intimate and sophisticated character.
